Flooding in the Philippines - Statement by the Honourable Jim Karygiannis Member of Parliament for Scarborough-Agincourt, and Liberal Critic of Multiculturalism

My prayers and thoughts are with the people of the Philippines who have been affected by the flash floods and landslides. I commend the efforts of the emergency workers who are working tirelessly to help rescue the injured and missing and to secure the damaged areas.

I add my voice to the Filipino community in Canada and call on the Harper Government do what it can to help with the relief efforts in the Philippines. Both the United States and China have come forward to offer their support.

The Conservative Government must engage with the Diaspora in Canada and match dollar-for-dollar the monies raised to help their families and friends in the Philippines. 

Canada should also expedite any immigration case from the affected areas which are in the queue so they can join their families in Canada.
